Students from European Countries must bring along
4 recent passport photos and fill in the appropriate
form issued at the Police Station with:
- their personal details
- their permanent address while in Italy
- the reasons for their stay in Italy.
They will then enclose a copy of the following documents:
- passport or other equivalent document
- proof of enrolment with the University of Rome Tor
Vergata (the document is issued by the Socrates Office)
Students from non European Countries must bring along
6 recent passport photos and fill in the appropriate
form issued at the Police Station with:
- their personal details
- their permanent address while in Italy
- the reasons for their stay in Italy.
They will then enclose a copy of the following documents:
- passport with a student visa issued by an Italian
embassy or consulate at their home countries
- proof of enrolment with the University of Rome Tor
Vergata (the document is issued at the Socrates Office)
- proof of insurance valid in Italy
- a € 10.33 revenue stamp
Both European and non-European students must declare
their permanent address in the residence permit. In
case this address is changed during their stay in Italy,
students must have the new address recorded in the
residence permit by the local police station of the
new residence area before they go to the Change of
Residence Office of the Local Municipality Authority
for the change of residence (“cambio di domicilio”).

Public Health Requisites
In order to avail themselves of the National Health
Service in Italy, Erasmus students will have to require
an E 128 Form to the a public health office in their
home Country.
After their arrival in Rome and their matriculation
with the University of Rome Tor Vergata, students will
have to go to the A.S.L. (Italian public health office)
located in the area where they choose to live in Rome.
Presenting their Form E 128 and their ATTESTATO of
matriculation they will be given a “green carnet” for
sanitary insurance.

Students who did not get an E 128 Form and citizens
of a non-EU Country must have a private insurance or
take out unlimited insurance coverage for hospital
medical treatment in Rome (i.e. without specifying
the maximum insured sum). This coverage is to be taken
out in the form of a policy by paying the corresponding
premium on post office account number no. 71270003
in the name of "LE ASSICURAZIONI D'ITALIA - Agenzia
Generale di Roma" - "Conto 20" - Via
del Tritone, 181 - 00187 Roma. On the payment form,
they will specify "Assicurazione per permesso
di soggiorno" and add their personal details.

Currency exchange
January first 2002 marked the introduction of a common European currency, the
Euro, in Italy and in the other Member States of the European Union that are
participating in the common currency: Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany,
Greece, Ireland, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain.
There are 8 Euro coins denominated in 2 and 1 Euros, then 50, 20, 10, 5, 2
and 1 cents. There are 7 Euro notes in different colours and sizes; they are
denominated in 500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5 Euros.
Thus, people travelling from one Country to another among the 12 listed above
don’t need to have their currency changed, while tourists reaching Italy
from other Countries can obtain Euros through any bank, exchange office (Ufficio
di Cambio) or post office.
Banks. There are many ATM (Automatic Teller Machines) operating non stop to
be found just outside the banks, in the city centre and at the Airports.
Exchange Offices. In many tourist areas they are usually open non stop from
8.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. In addition to currency exchange, they also operate
in money transfer and in travellers checks exchange.
Post Offices. Local Post Offices are usually open Monday through Friday from
8.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m., Saturday from 8.30 a.m. to 12.00 noon. Central Post
Offices usually operate non stop to 6.30 p.m.
Income tax code (Codice Fiscale)
It is not compulsory to have a Codice Fiscale in
Italy, but you need it if you want to open a bank
account here. To obtain your own, go to one of
the
offices on the list below (according to the area where you live in Rome)
from 8.30 to 12.00 noon, Monday through Friday:
